Nelson’s wonderful downtown local market takes place every Wednesday from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm until September 23rd. If you haven’t been yet, it has an amazing mix of 50 local vendors that offer fresh produce, plants, prepared foods, body care and handmade arts and crafts. So head out and support our local economy as 80% of each vendor’s wares must be made locally to be sold in this market!

The last Market Fest for the season will bring Nelson’s historic Baker Street to life this Friday from 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm. This lively night market features 100 vendors with handmade goods, live music on two stages, dance performances throughout the evening, kids entertainment and more. You don’t want to miss it!

Did you know? The Kootenay Kids Society hosts ‘Adventure Camp’ for children ages 5-10 years old. They offer weekly themes, swimming skills, art projects, nature exploration, and so much more. Located at 312 Silica Street, this program runs from July 3rd to October 3rd, all day long and provides a wonderful opportunity to explore, create, play, learn, and engage in our community!!

Salmo’s famous Shambhala Music Festival is happening this weekend. Shambhala has quickly become the staple event for electronic dance music and eclectic fans. It features over 500 acts, 6 unique stages, local organic food services, and exceeds 10,000 guests. Huge shout out of appreciation to all the firefighters who have been working so hard to contain the Sitkum Creek fire! A retartand line has been placed to protect all the homes in the 6 mile area and no one will need to be evacuated.

With social distancing being the norm, we are prepared for what we expect to be our busiest summer to date – what better place to be six feet apart than on the West Arm of Kootenay Lake. Our kayaks, paddleboards and canoes are thirsty for the Kootenay waters, and our freezer is filled to the brim with all the ice cream treats you could imagine.
As we all know, it is important that we continue to follow BC health guidelines while they are in place. That is why with our socially distanced activities and functional COVID protocols, this is one of the best places to beat the heat this summer.
Make your way down to the water’s edge where our friendly and knowledgeable team of marina staff await your visit. Take advantage of the breath-taking views our beautiful region has to offer, and conquer your inner longing for freedom by adventuring with Nelson Paddleboard and Kayak Rentals.

2020 The New Normal of Kayak, Paddleboard, & Canoe Rentals
/in Nelson Paddleboard & Kayak Rentals /by staffAlthough the sweltering Nelson summer heat and the pristine waters of Kootenay Lake remain routine. There is something different about this summer season. As you are no doubt aware, this year threw a curveball at the whole world with Covid-19. Our daily lives now changed to accommodate constant hand washing, social distancing, and sanitization of nearly everything all to stop the spread.
We at Nelson Paddleboard and Kayak Rentals, are passionate about getting outside, being active, and enjoying what this beautiful lake has to offer. We love helping our community find some fresh air and open space out on the lake. That is why we have worked hard to ensure our customers feel safe when renting from us. We follow all the necessary protocols set out by WorkSafe B.C. Making sure our equipment is thoroughly sanitized after each use; as well as encouraging social distancing wherever possible.
There is no question that the times we find ourselves in are uncertain. We feel very strongly that it is critical that everyone does their part to reduce social interactions and gatherings. There are very few activities that can be done to implement this new normal. Luckily kayaking, paddleboarding, and canoeing on the wide-open lake is an activity that can be done with minimal risk when done right. So come on down to the Prestige Marina and start to explore Kootenay Lake (or at least to cool off)!

The Final Dog Days of Summer

The last long weekend of the summer is upon us, but it is not quite the end for Nelson Whitewater Rafting Co. We’re operating our rafting trips daily right until the middle of September, which means you still have time to get out on the river.
It has been an awesome season getting everyone out on the Slocan River for our Scenic Float and Facchina Rapids trip. June was full of high water and adrenaline junkies, with rafts and rafters alike being fully submerged in the fast flowing river. July and August were chock full of families, first time rafters and lots of white water surfing!
We also loved getting people out on the west arm of Kootenay Lake for a kayak or stand up paddle, it truly is a great activity for all abilities, and another cool way to experience life here in Nelson. Our office at the Prestige Marina will be open weekends and Matt will be here to set you up with your kayak or paddle board needs.
We saw so many happy faces this summer and hope to see some more as we wind up the remaining of the 2018 season this September, whether it is on our river trips or heading out on Kootenay Lake for a paddle.
